2010 What I Wish Winners

2010 What I Wish for My Child – Winning Requests

Read more about what our What I Wish for My Child Campaign is or explore our Custom Assistive Technology services to see how we can help year round.

  1. Emily is a 4-year-old girl who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1. Her family wishes she could be outdoors more often, but she must always travel with several pieces of vital equipment. V-LINC will create a trailer for Emily, her mother, and the necessary support equipment so Emily’s dad can pull everyone using his bicycle/tricycle.
  2. Eighteen-year-old Matthew has Cerebral Palsy and cannot speak, so he uses a Dynavox to communicate. His ability to communicate is limited now because his communicator isn’t close enough to his hands. V-LINC will adapt his wheelchair so he has the ability to adjust both the position and angle of the Dynavox on his wheelchair table.
  3. Eight-year-old Taylor is deaf and uses cochlear implants. She is very involved in sports and needs the ability to wear a helmet to protect the cochlear implants when they are in place behind her ears. V-LINC will adapt a helmet for Taylor’s use.
  4. Sean is 12 years old and has Cerebral Palsy. His family wants him to be able to ride a bicycle so he can be like other children and enjoy the outdoors. V-LINC will adapt a bicycle or tricycle so he can ride safely.
  5. Seven-year-old Susan has Rett Syndrome and cannot support herself walking for any distance. Her mother wants to help her learn to walk. She asked V-LINC to create a way that she can wear special shoes with shoes for Susan attached on top. That way she can walk for them both and Susan will learn the concept of walking. Everyone hopes that she will be able to walk on her own one day.
  6. Two-year-old Elizabeth has Cerebral Palsy and is quadriplegic. Her family wants her to be able to enjoy more activities. Elizabeth is very happy when she is swinging. V-LINC will create a portable swing that can be used inside or outside. This will give Elizabeth many more hours of joy.
  7. Samantha is a 5-year-old girl who is autistic and loves to be underneath things. Her family wished for somewhere where she can play and feel safe outside. V-LINC will create a playhouse/gym for Samantha where she can feel safe and happy.
  8. Norlan is 9 years old and has Cerebral Palsy. His parents wished for a way that he would be able to ride a bike again. V-LINC will adapt a bicycle that will provide the support that Norlan needs to stay upright and safe on his new bike.
  9. Sammy is a 16-year-old male with Quadriplegic CP. His mother would like Sammy to be able to get dressed on his own or with little assistance. V-LINC will create an assistive device for Sammy to promote his independence and give him privacy while he is dressing.
