Saving in Word (.doc) Format
Benefits:
- File can be opened from any computer with Microsoft Word or other program that supports .doc files
- Can readily edit text, cut and paste etc...
- Can be opened in Kurzweil 3000 and read, cannot be read unless other Assistive Device is installed on users computer.
- Natural Reader can be installed free and read word documents http://www.naturalreaders.com/index.htm
Note:
• Graphic images will not be saved
• Text cannot include notes; make sure you have deleted any notes
1. Go to File on the menu bar, Click Save As:
2. In Save As dialog box:
a. Click Save in box and select location to save to
b. Double-click File name box and type your file name (no extension)
c. Click Save as type text box and select MS Word File
d. Click Save
e. Click Yes to message: All images will be lost. Do you want to continue?
4. Close Kurzweil 3000:
a. Click top Close button (X) to close Kurzweil 3000
5. Launch Microsoft Word
a. Open above file
b. Edit as needed
Saving in MP3 or WAV Format
Notes:
- Text will not display, audio only. Limited Navigation Ability.
- MP3 is a smaller file, but can only be played on Computers or CD players/devices that support MP3 format
- WAV is a larger file, but can be played on Computers and Most CD players/devices.
1. File menu > Audio Files > Create Audio File
2. In Create Audio File dialog box:
Create Audio File From - Select:
Entire Document
Page Range (then specify Starting & Ending Page #)
Selected Text
Reading Voice:
Select your preferred reading voice & speed
Output File:
Format: Select MP3 (Default) or WAV
Quality: Good / Better / Best (start with Better)
File name:
Name the file – be specific
3. Click OK: All output files will be placed on Drive C (in Kurzweil Output Audio folder)
4. Wait a few minutes for audio file to be created
5. On the Desktop, double-click folder Kurzweil Output Audio
6. Find Audio File and Move to Save Location, burn on CD etc...
Saving in Daisy Format
Daisy is an accessible book format, similar to KESI. It provides many of the reading, navigation features of Kurzweil and sometimes provides dictionaries and note options etc... There is a free daisy reader avaliable listed below. They are generally cheaper than Kurzweil and can be helpful where the student needs to use the document at home.
Notes:

- Text Shown on Screen w/Reading. Text Generally Highlighted similar to Kurzweil
- Can navigate by chapters, pages, headings etc...
- Requires special software or device for use (Free Software: http://www.daisy.org/amis?q=project/amis)
- Depending on player may have ability to use dictionary, notes and bookmarks.
- Saving in Daisy format is only avaliable in the newest version of Kurzweil 3000.
