Using the Reading Features

TO READ

To start reading:
3 methods:

  1. Click Read (Green Arrow) on toolbar
    
  2. Click Read on Menu Bar

   a. Click Start Reading in menu

    

  3. Keyboard:  F3

Reading Settings

As laid out on the Reading Toolbar.

To change voice:

  1. Select Speaker from Drop-down (VW Paul / VW Kate are most realistic)

OR

  1. Click Tools on Menu Bar

  2. Click Options

  3. Click Reading tab

  4. Select Speaker: (18 different speakers)

  5. Click Test Speech to hear sample and click OK

Read Mode:  

  1. Continuous (Default)
  2. Self-paced  (Reads one unit before stopping - e.g., paragraph)
  3. Word by word (Reads one word, then stops)

Read By:

  1. Word
  2. Phrase
  3. Line
  4. Sentence (Default)
  5. Paragraph
  6. Heading (Consider this to preview a chapter by hearing only headings read aloud)
  7. Highlight (Reads only the text you have highlighted)

WPM:

  1. Sets reading speed
  2. Range:  50 - 600 wpm
  3. Can be changed while reading

Zoom:

  1. Sets magnification level
  2. Depends in part on printed material
  3. Range:  25 - 500%

Adjusting the View:

To optimize display by fitting text to fill screen width

            1.         Click View on Menu Bar

            2.         Highlight Fit To in menu

            3.         Click Text Width (Default)

To choose reading language:

   a. Click Reading Language menu

   b. Options: 
    English
    Spanish
    German
    French
    Italian


To magnify spoken word:

This option puts a window on screen that displays each word
individually as it is spoken

 1. Click View on Menu Bar

 2. Click Magnify Spoken Word in menu
 
   a. Window can be adjusted to display several words (Range: 1-15 words)

   b. Window can be moved by dragging its title bar
